This historical model railway layout is presenting the Dutch village Winterswijk in Holland in the 1920's and 1930's. Winterswijk was then an important railway junction with a large rail yard, with two stations and with three roundhouses.
From Winterswijk trains drove in all directions, but especially to the Ruhr area to transport coal from there to the west of the Netherlands. The model train layout was built by Transit Oost, a foundation in the Netherlands that is specialized in the preservation and in the restoration of historic vehicles of public transport.
In Transit Oost’s railway museum there are historic buses, railway uniforms and even real locomotives, railcars and wagons. To preserve the memory of the marshalling yard at Winterswijk, this model railway was built. The layout has got a size of 15 meters x 4 meters, and there are scenes, locomotives and vehicles of the railway operation in the 1920's and 1930's.
